Living in Possibility vs. Probability
I hope you are having a great week so far! 🌟
It's Rugby 7s weekend in Hong Kong, and the city is buzzing! We have friends and family in town, and I’m excited for all the possibilities this weekend will bring.
Speaking of possibilities, I’ve been reflecting on something that fundamentally shapes our lives—often without us even realizing it:
Are you living in POSSIBILITY or PROBABILITY?
Let me ask you something…
When you think about your next career move, a business idea, or even a personal dream, what’s your first thought?
🔹 "I wonder if I could..."
🔹 "Based on my past, what’s most likely to happen is..."
If you're like most of us, you've been living in probability. And here’s what that looks like:
❌ "I've never earned more than $X, so that’s probably my ceiling."
❌ "I’ve tried something similar before and it didn’t work, so it probably won’t work now."
❌ "No one from my background has ever done this, so I probably can't either."
But here’s the thing: this probability-based thinking isn't your fault.
Our brains are wired to predict outcomes based on past experiences—it’s survival mode 101. But while this mindset kept our ancestors alive, it’s keeping us small.
And you know how much I despise playing small!! 🚀
What if you lived in POSSIBILITY instead?
This shift is exactly what has distinguished some of the most remarkable women of our time!
💡 Sara Blakely (Founder of Spanx) didn’t look at the probability of a part-time fax machine salesperson revolutionizing the undergarment industry.
💡 Michelle Obama didn’t calculate the statistical likelihood of her journey from Chicago’s South Side to the White House.
✨ They lived in POSSIBILITY! ✨
Living in possibility means:
✅ Seeing your past as information, not definition
✅ Treating "failures" as data points, not destinations
✅ Asking "why not me?" instead of "who am I to try?"
Arghhh how good is that??!! 🎉
🚀 My Own Wake-Up Call
I had my own probability vs. possibility moment in my corporate days.
I was passed over for a role I knew I was qualified for (and really wanted!). The feedback?
"We just can't see you in that role yet."
🤯 In probability-thinking, this meant:
“They don’t see me as suitable/ready, so I should adjust my expectations.”
But something in me rebelled.
What if, instead of accepting their probability assessment, I explored the possibility that they simply hadn’t seen the right version of me yet?
That single mindset shift changed EVERYTHING.
Within 9 months, I wasn’t just in that role—I was ROCKING it! 🎉💃
💡 Your Possibility Practice
Here’s a simple practice to shift from probability to possibility thinking:
📌 When you catch yourself saying “I probably can’t…” or “It probably won’t…”, pause.
📌 Replace it with “What if I could?” or “What if it did?”
📌 Don’t stress about answering the question immediately. Just let it sit and watch how your mind begins to work differently.
🔮 As Oprah wisely says:
“You don’t become what you want, you become what you believe.”
And belief starts with allowing possibility to enter the room.
That’s what Daring to Dream is all about! 💫
🌊 The Ripple Effect
The most beautiful thing about embracing possibility is how it ripples outward.
🌟 When one woman decides her dreams aren't restricted by probabilities, she gives silent permission to everyone around her to do the same. Isn’t that beautiful?
💛 I see this every single day in my Dare to Dream membership group.
One woman shares a "crazy" dream, takes one brave step toward it, and suddenly five other women are reconsidering limitations they’ve accepted for years.
This is how we change not just individual lives but culture itself.
One possibility-thinker at a time.
🔥 This Week’s Challenge
This week, I’m challenging you to catch yourself in probability thinking at least once per day.
When you do, say out loud:
👉 "That’s just a probability. What’s truly possible here?"
Then, take one small action from that possibility space.
💡 Remember: It takes just 20 seconds of courage to step into possibility.
💥 The rest takes care of itself.
I’m cheering you on from my corner of the world, believing in your possibilities even when they seem improbable.
Here’s to living not in the shadow of what’s likely, but in the light of what’s possible. ✨
Lots of love,
