This week I am sharing something a bit more personal - my struggle to leave my career.
24 years.
That's how long I spent climbing the corporate ladder, collecting the perks, building the reputation. I was a senior executive at a global company.
On paper, I had everything I was supposed to want.
But you know that feeling when you're a frog in slowly boiling water?
The temperature rises so gradually you don't notice until suddenly you're trapped. That was me.
The rigid hours.
The guilt every morning when I couldn’t take my daughters to school because I had another presentation to make.
The politics that kept me from making the impact I knew I could make.
I was working in leadership development and gender equity, helping other women advance their careers, while my own life felt smaller and smaller.
The irony wasn't lost on me - I was empowering everyone except myself.
Here’s what I was too scared to admit: I wanted out.
I wanted to help women dare to dream and live lives that lit them up every day.
But leaving felt impossible. I was the breadwinner. I had this “great career.”
What would people think? What if I wasn’t credible without the fancy title?
The fear whispered: “You’re throwing it all away.”
But a louder voice finally broke through: “You’re throwing yourself away.”
The truth is, I didn’t need a complete life overhaul to start.
I just needed a safe space to explore what I actually wanted – not what I was supposed to want – while keeping my security intact.
